Aloha!
This past Po'aono (Saturday), HURT members gathered to erect a bench at the top of Nuuanu Trail in memory of fellow runner, Kent Bien.
After all work was complete, we joined hands, formed a circle, and shared memories of Kent. It was only fitting that our tribute was blessed with cool mountain rain.
My heartfelt thanks to Rod and Adam - your message to dad Kent was a beautiful tribute! Thank you Aaron and Katie for your efforts to make this happen. Mahalo to Mae for the beautiful hand-made leis!
Mahalo nui loa to all of you who could make the trek - it was wonderful to come together and reminisce about Kent!

A hui hou kakou!
Mike Garcia
ps... sorry for the raindrops on some of the photos!
I wanted to write to extend my huge, heartfelt thanks to you all. Aaron Lowe and Curt Cotrell with the Hawaiian trails were so kind to allow us to put up this bench.
And, Mike Garcia, we can never thank you enough. Mike signed up for the project, planned the building of the bench, got all of the materials, built the bench himself and organized the gathering so that he could assemble the bench. What a great man. Thank you, thank you a thousand times.
And all of the people who showed up, thank you. Wow. What an impact that had on Rod and Adam. You gave up your Saturday to remember their father. You made this day so special for them.
I hope that none of you ever has to suffer from such a sudden loss. It is so terrible. You don't know what to do. How to recover. How to heal. You all really, really helped.
So, thank you. HURT is a wonderful family of people. You are so lucky to have each other and we are so lucky to have you.
Sincerely,
Katie Bien

I'm a good friend of the Biens. I'm very touched that so many of you made the effort to support Rod and Adam in making this bench in Kent's memory a reality. That includes you Katie.
Nothing could have pleased Kent more. At last he's resting in a place that he can truely call home.....
Thank you to all of you.
