H.U.R.T. 100 (2009) Trail Endurance Run: Runner Number Assignment

Aloha Runners,

Happy New Year to you all. We hope that each and every one of you have a prosperous and healthy year. We have updated the 2009 H.U.R.T. 100 entrant list to include your assigned run number. Please check  your status by clicking here

Once again,for those accepted runners who may have a change in plans or life circumstances and wish to withdraw please notify PJ. Also, please let PJ know if you will be attending the "no hosted" post race dinner on Monday evening so we can get an accurate head count for the event.

Enjoy the taper period, it is well deserved. We look forward to seeing you in January. Be prepared for a very wet event on sloppy trails.

H.U.R.T. 100 Update #1 12/21/08

Happy Holidays

As 2008 is nearing an end, 2009 is about to begin. As you all know the H.U.R.T. 100 begins the new 100 mile ultra season.For many of you it will be the first of several 100 mile attempts in the coming year, for others it might be the only attempt. In an effort to help make the beginning of the year successful for all of you out on the H.U.R.T. course,  rest assured that we have gone to great lengths to make the run as easy as possible. While we cannot control the weather and the effects it may have upon the trails we can control other factors which should prove beneficial for you in your attempt of taming the course. In the coming weeks and days we will be posting updates here to serve that purpose. This will then serve as our first update.

Runner Count:

We currently have over 100 runner's entered, but we anticipate that only 100 will actually start the event. If you will not be attending the event please notify PJ

Electrolyte Drink:

The aid station will be serving Succeed Ultra as the electrolyte drink once again this year. You can view the product here Succeed

Runner Numbers:

Run numbers will be assigned on or after 1/1/2009. and posted to the accepted runner list.

Parking:

Parking at he Nature Center is very limited, please consider carpooling when possible.

Race Day Web Updates:

We will once again be updating your progress on our blog throughout the event. Once the race numbers are assigned we will update the list. Currently if you click on the race update link you will see a call for volunteers for these important communication positions for the event. If you have crew members or family members who might want to participate please contact those listed on the form.

Course Maps / Driving Maps:

Please print your own maps from the links on the blog as they will not be made available at check in this year. Although the course will be flagged with surveyor tape, the tape has been known to disappear during the course of the event.

Google Maps Driving Link: Click here

Drop Bags:

Recall you will hit three aid stations (5) times. Pack your drop bags accordingly and bring them on race morning and not on Friday afternoon. Please have your bags marked with your name and number. The bags are likely to get wet (it always rains at night here). We will not be responsible for lost bags or for returning bags that are left at the finish line. Bags we be returned from the aid stations to the start finish line. Please retrieve them prior to 6 p.m. on Sunday night.

Monday Evening Dinner:

Our no hosted post race Dinner / Drinks will be held on Monday evening January 19,2009. Please see details in other post. It is important for us to get a decent head count.

Please return frequently to this site for future update.

Mahalo,

John, PJ, Jeff

H.U.R.T. 100 Post Race Dinner Announcement

Aloha,

Each year, one of the highlights (especially for us) is the Monday night banquet. It gives everyone a chance to relax after a very hard weekend and tell stories, have a glass of wine (or two) and enjoy the camaraderie of the HURT experience and each other. We also have some awards and giveaways, picture sharing and try very hard to make fun of as many runners as possible.

Last year we had over 150 people attend and had a ball!  Here's the problem, as much as we like the Willows Restaurant, we've just out grown it.................last year we were squeezed in tighter than Luis Escobar's %$%#.  We looked everywhere and came up with a great solution, Mid-Pacific Country Club in Lanikai.

In order to plan properly, we need a "ballpark" count from each of you so we can order enough food. We know it's a little early, but please send us by return e-mail an approximate attendee count for planning purposes.

Here are some facts for Mid Pacific............
Address 266 Ka'elepulu Drive, Kailua, Hawaii 96734 (808-262-8161).
Location, the windward side of the Island (about 20-25 minutes from  Waikiki or Honolulu. We will have specific directions available at Friday's  check in (or you can map-quest).
Plenty of FREE parking!
Cost is $40.00 (about $5-6 cheaper than last year). Children under 4 free,  children 4-11 $20.00.  Please pay at the door, cash or check only (no  credit cards).
Unlike last year, we will have wait service available for no-host  cocktails, wine or beer (at a more reasonable cost than last year).
We will be using their ballroom, a beautiful large room that seats 220,  with large windows and magnificent ocean and mountain views.
Seating will be tables of six with tons of room!
Time 5:30 (so you can catch the sunset) and the buffet will start about  6:30.
After you park, please use the main (right side) entrance of the club.
This is a fun event, please come.
Aloha,
PJ, Jeff & John

Entrant Analysis of H.U.R.T. 100

H.U.R.T. 100 Runners,

I came across the following analysis done by Gary Wang and thought you folks might enjoy it. His database is real interesting to play with. Please read his post below and visit his site Real Endurance

Aloha,

Jeff Huff

All,

I have added a new feature on RealEndurance.com to analyze the race
entrants.
Here are a few races that is coming up. The analysis lists the PRs for all
the entrants for all the distance,
and the number of race ran for each distance. The PRs for the race event and
race distance are also listed and can be viewed in a sorted order.
The list does not take into account on the year when PR is set, so it is not
a prediction on the race finishing order.

The analysis for following events are available. Good luck to those who are
racing. I will be checking the results from Kona next week.

    * John F. Kennedy 50 Mile
    * Ultraman Hawaii
    * Quad Dipsea
    * The North Face Endurance
    * OTHTC High Desert 50K
    * Bandera 100km 50km 25km
    * HURT Trail 100 Mile Endur
    * Umstead 100 Mile Enduranc
    * Western States 100m

As usual, any suggestion and comments are welcome.
If you are a race director and would like to include this information, just
send me the entrants list periodically and I can update the database.

Thanks,

Gary Wang

Important H.U.R.T. 100 Information

Aloha Runners,

We assume you are well into your training for the H.U.R.T. 100 and hope that all is going well. We are fast approaching the November 1,2021 drop date for which those runner's electing to opt out of the event may do so. Recall, that said runner will be reimbursed $100.00 if they choose to drop and we can find a wait listed runner to take your spot. We currently have a very extensive wait list, as such there are folks out there eager and willing to a accept a vacated spot. Our intent is to start with 100 runner's, we ask that if you do not intend to run please let us know so that we can get someone else into your spot. Please e-mail PJ at hurtpals@aol.com ASAP (Prior to November 1,2021) if you would like to relinquish your spot.

We will update the runner list and wait list sometime in November (accepted wait listed runner's will receive an e-mail from PJ when appropriate). Many of you have asked that we include the runner's hometown and age and we will comply with that request in the future update.

Over the next week I will be e-mailing the prospective 500 mile award recipients to get their jacket size so we will be able to have your jackets ready at the Monday night dinner.

Keep training hard, we look forward to seeing you in January.

John and Jeff

H.U.R.T. 100 Application Pulled

Aloha Athletes:

Due to the amount of applications for the 2009 H.U.R.T. 100 received in the mail today, we believe that after Monday and Tuesday's mail arrives we will have reached the race limit of 100 entries and have a wait list.

Therefore, we are pulling the application off the site at this time. If after the mail arrives early next week, this is not the case, we will reinstate the application until the limit is reached.

Thank you for your interest and support of the H.U.R.T. 100

2009 H.U.R.T. Application Available August 1st!

Backofshirt_3 For those who have been watching and paying attention or for those who have not, we have added a countdown timer in the upper left corner. This timer is counting down the timeRunnerscropped_4 until the 2009 H.U.R.T. 100 application becomes available.

The 2008 race sold out in 2 weeks! Races have been selling out extremely fast all over the country.

You still have lots of time (I am talking to myself here) to get in shape for the 2009 race. The race roster will be filled on a first come, first serve basis and postmarks will be used to sort this out.

The application goes live at Midnight Hawaii time on August 1.

Don't hesitate or it might be too late. January is a great time to run 100 miles in Hawaii.

2009 H.U.R.T. 100 Entry & Selection Guidelines

H.U.R.T. 100 Entry & Selection Guidelines

  • The H.U.R.T 100 is limited to a starting field of 100 runners. It is the intent of the race organizers to have 100 entrants toe the start line on race day. The purpose of these guidelines is to assure that a fair process is established to meet that endpoint.
  • The H.U.R.T. 100 race application will be made available on August 1, 2021 at http://www.hurt100trailrace.com/.
  • Applications must be postmarked on or after August 1, 2008. Applications postmarked prior to that date will not be considered. Runners are accepted in the order of postmark. Once 75 applications have been received the application at the above site will be removed. As a point of reference the application was removed after being posted for 9 days in 2007. Removal of the application from the web site prior to hitting the 100 runner mark will allow those that have applications in the mail to be processed towards the 100 runner limit.
  • Application must be submitted with the appropriate race fee. Applications without the race fee will not be considered.
  • Once the 100 runner limit is met, the entrant list will be posted and the race registrar will implement a wait list for those applications that are received after the 100 runner limit. The wait list will not be published.
  • Accepted runner’s who for whatever reason will not be able to participate in the event can asked to be replaced by a wait listed runner. The following will apply to those who wish to opt out of the race.
      • A refund in the amount of $100 will be returned to the previously accepted runner, if a wait listed runner accepts the position in the race;
      • No refund will be made if the position is not accepted by a wait listed runner,
      • Notification of intent to withdraw from the race must be made by  November 1,2021 to the race registrar Hurtpals@aol.com,
      • Notification after November 1,2021 to the race registrar will be handled on a case by case basis,
      • Once accepted the wait listed runner entry fee will be cashed. The entrant list will be continuously updated as wait listed runners are added.

  • Race organizers retain the right to accept runners who they feel might add to the competive nature of the event.

Please direct all questions regarding the selection process to jeff.huff2@hawaiiantel.net. Thank you for your interest in the H.U.R.T. 100.

Aloha,

Jeff & John
