We are @ 13 days out from going live with the race application for the 2012 HURT 100. For those of you who are interested in securing a spot in the weighted lottery for 1 of the 125 entry slots you need to do the following.
Read "The Book of HURT, A.D. 2012" at HURT 100. The book which includes all you need to know about the event has undergone major revisions. Mahalo to AJ Tauber and Harald Ebeling for the task that consumed the last 4 months of their spare time. For those who have run HURT before, you must still read this book. At race signup you will be asked to certify that you have read the booklet in its entirety. You will also want to peruse the new maps on the site. Many man hours were put into these to make the course easier to understand, and more accurate in our race measurements.
Register for the run. The application goes live on 7/31/11 at 12:00 a.m. (HST). The application will be pulled as the clock strikes midnight on 8/6/11. You need to register for the run here. We ask that you upload a picture of yourself on the site, or a photo that you feel best represents you.
Please note then when you register for the run, you will also have the option of purchasing your banquet tickets at checkout. We strongly urge you to purchase your banquet tickets at the this time.
Watch for the lottery, which we anticipate to occur on 8/7/11. More details on the lottery and possible lottery bash will be posted at a later date.
If you have questions / concerns please email me at email@example.com, but do so after reading the booklet.
On behalf of the HURT 100, thank you for your continued interest in our event.
We are less than 30 days from the application going live for the 2012 running of the H.U.R.T. 100. Several changes are being made to this year's event. Most noticeably you will find an updated and edited race booklet courtesy of AJ Tauber and Harald Ebeling which will soon be posted on this site. You will want to read the booklet in it's entirety before committing to the race. Many of the sections have been streamlined and the rules section revamped.
Similar to last year we will be employing the services of Mark Gilligan as our race registrar at www.ultrasignup.com to make for a smooth and easy application / lottery process.
As an added bonus we will be selling post race (January 16,2012) banquet tickets when you register on line for the race, making your one stop shopping much easier.
We are still contemplating a live lottery selection party at the Huff residence (August 14,2011) as we select the entrants for the 2012 event. We aren't certain if it is something the local runners would want to participate in. If you think its a good idea please feel free to comment to this post and we will gauge your interest that way.
Be sure to check back at this in mid July as the information will be coming fast and furious.
It is starting to get spring-like on the mainland. We hope all of you have enjoyed the first quarter of 2011.
The process for entering an application to participate in the 2010 H.U.R.T. 100 will be very similar to the 2011 process. The application will go live on July 31, 2011 (7/31/11) at 12:01 a.m. HST. The application will stay up until 11:59 p.m. on August 6, 2011 (8/6/11). At that point, application to the 2012 H.U.R.T. 100 will closed.
The countdown timer to the left is also a link to this site.
We will again be holding a lottery/drawing process drawing to fill the slots for the race. Again, details will be similar to the 2011 process. The drawing will take place on August 14th. More details will be coming out over the next several weeks.
Just a reminder that the HURT 100 is again a qualifying entry race for The North Face Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc. This would be for the 2012 race as the 2011 entry has already taken place and I believe the race is full.
The logo and link for this race is located on the lower left side of our site. I think there are four different races that are included in this event. Nick Kaiser has participated in the CCC version the last few years if you want to talk with someone locally who has been there.
Gary Robbins and Tracy Garneau as well as other top runners were at the 2010 race but it was somewhat stormed out. Both are planning to be at the 2011 race.
Andrea Stout took a lot of really great photos (600+) throughout the race starting with the pre-race briefing all the way to the finish. I have taken these photos and broke them into 7 slideshows. If there is a photo that you see that you would like to have, feel free to download it directly from the Flickr site. Since she was here to support Sarah, Marian, and Ashley, there might be a few more photos of them, however, there are lots of other great photos here. Thank you Andrea for sharing your work and making the photos available for others.
I am sure many of you are full-on into your recovery from this past weekend's HURT 100. I came across something today that I shared with some other runners and I thought more of you might find it of interest. I am pretty convinced that part of our training in preparation for a 100-mile run is strengthening our endocrine system. I am sure there are other sources out there but this article does a pretty good job of covering what I want to discuss and I will leave it at that. You may or may not have experienced some of what is discussed here. It plays a big part in our recovery. Read the article here.
On another note, some people have asked about Tracy Garneau. Tracy was recognized Tuesday by Ultra Running Magazine as female Ultra Runner of the year. Geoff Roes got the men's honor.
As you know Tracy dropped out of the race this year after 40 miles. She attempted to start the third loop but came back to the start/finish and withdrew. She took a bad fall during loop one and was in extreme pain and most importantly having a hard time breathing because of the pain. Barbi spent some time with her yesterday up on the N. Shore. Tracy is traveling with a large group of other Canadians visiting Hawaii for the race. She is still in a lot of pain and has a really bruised and swollen area on the side of her pelvis. Since she is Canadian and with the health insurance issues, she will wait until she returns to Canada and get it examined more closely. She was extremely disappointed and felt it was best to stop so she could race another day. She fully intends to be back at HURT in 2012 and is hoping to heal quickly for other races in 2011.
Robert Smith and his wife spent some time Saturday evening up on the trails and with Cindy Goh. Robert also went back out on Sunday as well. He has run in some of the HURT Trail Series races so he knows some of us and would like to meet more.
He has openly shared his photos on Facebook and I ask that you read this info here if you are interested in learning more about Robert and are interested in getting copies of any of these shots. Thanks Robert!
I have more photos from other photographers that I will be working on getting uploaded over the next several days. If you have photos to share, let me know. Also if you want us to link or share your race report from the HURT 100 let me know.
