Halmes Accepts Position at H.U.R.T. 100

Aloha Runners,

Most of you may have missed it in the Staradvertsier, but 2010 H.U.R.T. 100 finisher and chef extraordinaire, Freddy Halmes has graciously accepted the position of Nuuanu Aid Station Captain for the 2011 edition of the H.U.R.T. 100.

Freddy brings many years of aid station experience with him,  he has worked the Nuuanu station nearly from the inception of the race. There were many applicants for the position, and after an exhaustive interview process with each applicant it was decided Freddy should take the helm. Many thanks to those who expressed interest in the position and were not selected. It is our hope that you will continue to support the H.U.R.T. 100 and volunteer at one of the aid stations.

Freddy understands fully the big shoes he will be filling as he takes over for Bob and Barbi McAllaster, who have done a phenomenal job over the years in making the Nuuanu aid station top notch.

Congrats to Freddy, and Mahalo to the McAllasters for being such a big part of the H.U.R.T. 100 and making it that much easier for the runners to get to the finish line.

Kukui Nuts and Other Info

Aloha Runners,

FedEx has just delivered the Kukui nuts to Mark Gilligan in California. At this very moment he is feeding them into his computer and preparing it for the first ever H.U.R.T. 100 algorithm driven lottery. We have taken a test drive with the program and all systems are a go. To think that we are less than a week out from registration and we will soon have a starting field. My how times have changed. We would like to thank Mark for the incredible amount of time he has spent on this project. To any of you who are race directors we strongly encourage you to seek out Mark at Ultrasignup and have him help you out with your next race. And yes, this is a plug for a great product, however we have no financial interest in it. With that said, there are a few things to know:

The lottery will start promptly at 2 p.m. Hawaii time on 8/7/10.

For Hawaii folks if you plan on attending Selection Saturday at my place the doors open at 1 p.m. with a potluck event.

For the mainland, international and local folks who cannot make it we will post a link where you can have access to the updated entrant list as it happens.

Furthermore, entrants who are selected will be immediately e-mailed at the address given during registration. Ok, maybe not immediately but only a 2-3 second time lapse.

Last but certainly not least, if you haven't already done so we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO UPLOAD A PHOTO at Ultrasignup. If you don't want us to see your face, make it a funny caricature. The photo will make the selection viewing much more enjoyable.

That's it for now. Good luck to all, and thank you for your interest in the H.U.R.T. 100.

Reminder: H.U.R.T. 100 Selection Saturday

Aloha Runners,

PJ, John, and I are pleased to invite you all to the first annual H.U.R.T. 100 Selection Saturday Show. The event will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Huff house in Moanalua Valley.

During the event, you will witness the selection of the 2011 field of runners for the H.U.R.T. 100 as they are selected one by one by the computer. You might even be asked to hit the "return" key to make the next selection. It promises to be a fun filled afternoon with friends and family. You are encouraged to come join the fun and be part of the excitement for those lucky enough to get one of the @ 125 slots. For those not so fortunate we ask that you refrain from crying, as crying is not allowed in ultrarunning, or at the H.U.R.T.

We are planning a potluck, so bring your favorite dish. We will be providing burgers (beef and I will look into veggie burgers) on the barbie, along with cold soda and water. For those who need alcohol I will have some beer available, but I will not have wine.

Date:    8/7/10

Time:    1 p.m. (HST), Lottery to start at 2 p.m. (HST). Ending should be around 4 p.m.

Place:    Huff's (1639 Ala Makani Place)

What:    Bring a dish to share

Who:     Runners applying to H.U.R.T. 100 and significant others

We live at the end of a culde-sac up a long drive. If you park in the drive you are likely to get blocked, but if you don't mind go for it. There should be street parking throughout the neighborhood. I don't know how many folks are coming so we are just going to go with it and have a good time.

For our mainland runners who cannot make the flight over for the selection show, we will have a link so you can see the selection process of runners as it progresses. Same applies to those living in Hawaii who are anti social.

Aloha, and good luck to you all. This is going to be fun.
